Workflow

Configure workflows around organizational processes, adjust them during a project, and use reviewing and user/task analytics.

Publishing

Use labeling and “AsOf” publishing, schedule future publishing jobs, and export a DITA-map publication as compressed HTML files with topics and images.

FrameMaker

Access the repository from Structured FrameMaker 7.2, 8 or 9 through integration supported by Leximation’s DITA-FMx.

The release described “AsOf” publishing as producing content according to the state of the repository on a particular date. It also announced that XDocs 2.1 had already been in production use by customers for more than a month.

“Our technical writers use XDocs XML CMS to successfully create, manage and publish our documentation containing more than 30,000 DITA topics. This system solved our content management requirements; every writing team using DITA should consider XDocs.”

The market context in the announcement

Bluestream positioned XDocs as a DITA-ready option for technical writing groups ranging from small businesses to large enterprises. It emphasized a flexible pricing model and a deployment approach intended to avoid lengthy installation projects.

“The downturn in the economy does not mean that business activity or innovation should stop. We have found that businesses seek more innovative ways to deliver to their end-users and investing in affordable technology that works is perhaps the best starting point.”

“Since the market slow-down nearly a year ago, the XDocs adoption rate has significantly increased. As well, we have witnessed that the XDocs deployment model has shifted from departmental to enterprise-wide even among Fortune 500 companies.”

Publishing reproducibly requires a clear reference point

The distinction between a scheduled job and an “AsOf” content state is useful. One determines when the publishing work runs; the other determines which repository state supplies the content. In an evaluation, record both. A job that runs tomorrow may need the content approved for an earlier release rather than the latest edited files.

A practical check follows one map, its topics and its images through a publication, then asks whether the team can identify the exact source state that produced it. This is an editorial testing approach prompted by the release; it is not a claim that every later XDocs configuration behaves identically.
