In its 21st year, the CIDM Best Practices conference remains the premier annual conference for managers of information development. No other conference in the industry offers you the chance to meet so many managers with the same challenges and the best solutions.

Turn peer discussion into a useful decision
The notice’s central theme, learning from managers facing similar problems, is a useful starting point for preparing any professional exchange. Bring a bounded problem and enough context for someone else’s experience to be comparable. “Our review process is slow” is less useful than a description of the content type, the people involved, the approval boundary, and the point where work waits.
Before the conversation
Choose one operational question: review turnaround, ownership, release coordination, or contributor participation. Write down the present process and the constraint you cannot remove.
During the conversation
Ask what changed, who had to participate, and which trade-offs remained. Separate an interesting tool demonstration from evidence about a repeatable working process.
After the conversation
Select one small experiment, name its owner, and decide what evidence would justify continuing. Keep the comparison close to your own team’s conditions.
A manager’s discussion prompt
Ask: “Which handoff creates the most uncertainty for our content team, and what would make that handoff observable?” The answer may be a clearer review brief, an explicit approval rule, or a smaller publishing batch. Use a small experiment to find out whether the proposed change helps your team.
