More routes from repository to output
Publishing, Knowledge Base administration and content export were the principal themes of the 2010 announcement.
The XDocs 2.2 release at a glance
| Area | What was announced |
|---|---|
| WebWorks | Server-based integration with WebWorks publishing tools, with outputs listed as PDF, Confluence Wiki, HTML, RTF and others. |

| Login redirects | Redirecting login to and from a site with a passed token, as described in the historical release. |
| Eclipse Help | Out-of-the-box export using the DITA Open Toolkit’s Eclipse Help output. |
| Publishing extensions | A Java plug-in API through which a publish job could be added to XDocs. |
Export a connected content set
XDocs 2.2 allowed a user to choose a root file and export a set that included linked files. The announcement described three forms of export, reflecting how much processing the content should receive before leaving the repository.
Raw storage format
Export the files in their stored form.
Conditional processing
Export after applying DITA conditional processing.
DITA preprocessing
Export after preprocessing such as content-reference inclusion.

Choose the output boundary deliberately
The release highlights two different needs. A publishing integration turns managed source into a reader-facing output. A file export moves content to another environment, and its processing choices affect what remains in that exported set. In a practical evaluation, decide which of those outcomes is required before choosing a route.
Use a representative root map with linked topics, images and reused content. Inspect the generated publication separately from the exported files. Check that each contains the intended material, and record which processing steps have already happened. Those checks make an integration easier to explain and reproduce.
Product names, formats and login behavior above are features described in 2010. Current tool compatibility and security requirements need their own review; the archived token-redirect description is not current implementation guidance.
