In September 2012, Simply XML announced a relationship with Bluestream to connect Content Mapper’s Microsoft Word authoring environment with the XDocs DITA component content management system.

Content Mapper and XDocs: the partnership
Simply XML, the provider of Content Mapper, said Bluestream would distribute the Word-to-XML authoring tool with full integration to XDocs. The aim was to let contributors keep a familiar writing interface while creating structured content for reuse, management and publication.
Content Mapper handled the XML behind the scenes. XDocs supplied the repository and component content management capabilities. The announcement described the combination as an economical end-to-end approach for large and small organizations, including commercial and government teams.

Despite all the business reasons to do so, a number of organizations are reluctant to leave the all-familiar Microsoft Word authoring environment and therefore are not making a move towards DITA. The important test is the handoff
A familiar interface can make contribution easier. However, the full workflow still needs testing. First, follow a realistic contribution from its first draft to a reviewed, reusable component. Then check what structure the writer must supply and how the team validates the resulting content. Finally, identify who handles changes after the content enters the repository.
